During the joint Minmidt and Mincom press briefing on July 15, Minister René Emmanuel Sadi recalled the various projects that the Cameroonian government is carrying out in the mining sector in Cameroon. The government is committed to banning disorder and spoliation for the benefit of better living conditions through industrialization.

The Cameroonian mining sector constitutes, for the government, one of the most significant backbones of Cameroon’s economy, stated the Minister of Communication, Rene Emmanuel Sadi, in his opening remarks. In this regard, several projects are defined or already underway in the sector. These include the iron exploitation project of Bipindi Grand-Zambi carried out by a 100% Cameroonian company, the iron exploitation project of the Kribi-Lobé hills; the industrial exploitation project of the bauxite of Minim-Martap in Adamaoua; the industrial exploitation project of marble from Bidzar and Biou Sud; the gold exploitation project of Colomine in the East region.

For the year 2026, the government spokesperson indicates that other projects are in the process of starting. Included in this list are the iron exploitations of Mbalam in the East region, Nkout and Ngovayang in the South region. Also classified are the gold exploitations of Mborguene in the East and Bibemi in the North. The implementation of all these initiatives is carried out under the leadership of the Ministry of Mines, Industry, and Technological Development. Furthermore, the government’s policy in the mining sector is not limited to these projects. It also extends to critical minerals and rare earths identified in various regions of Cameroon.

According to the minister, such a vision requires an efficient institutional framework capable of attracting investors. It also requires rigorous sanitation measures to ban disorder and spoliation. Because the State’s policy aims to make the mining sector a lever for the transition from a model based on fossil and polluting energies to a system based on renewable and decarbonized energy sources. The State wants to rely on the mining sector for growth, industrialization, job creation, and improving the living conditions of the population. To do this, it is necessary to meet the challenges related to the illegality of operators by restoring State authority.
