
The MINESEC holds on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at the Distance Learning Centre in Yaoundé, the 12th session of the National Council for the Award of Academic Palms. 1,610 files are under review for the ranks of Knight, Officer, and Commander, compared to 1,566 in 2025.
Teaching merit honored. The Ministry of Secondary Education (MINESEC) holds, on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at the Distance Learning Centre in Yaoundé, the 12th session of the National Council for the award of academic honorary distinctions.
The proceedings are chaired by the Secretary of State at MINESEC in charge of Normal Education, Boniface Bayaola, representing the President of the Council, Professor Nalova Lyonga, Minister of Secondary Education.
At the opening, Boniface Bayaola called on the Council members to conduct deliberations with cordiality, serenity, and in a spirit of justice and fairness.
The Director of Human Resources at MINESEC, Orock Comfort, presented the eligibility criteria for the different ranks. The rank of Knight requires at least 15 years of teaching experience. To become an Officer, one must have been a Knight for at least five years, while the rank of Commander requires 25 years of experience and five years as an Officer.
For the 2026 session, 1,610 files were registered, compared to 1,566 in 2025. They include 1,027 applications for the rank of Knight, 223 for Officer, and 360 for Commander.
The Council is responsible for determining the number of medals before selecting the laureates, whose distinctions will be awarded on October 5, on the occasion of World Teachers’ Day.
