The Garoua Port file is entering its decisive phase. In his remarks, Technical Advisor No. 1 at MINEPAT, Roger Bafakan, recalled the foundations of the project. Under consideration since 2002, with feasibility studies and workshops led by MINEPAT and PAD, including the one in August 2024 presided over by the Governor in the presence of the PAD Director General Cyrus Ngo’o, the choice was made to entrust PAD with leading this project.
The representative of the Mayor of Garoua spoke of a meeting to make history, recalling the past importance of the Port for the city and the region.
Received shortly before, Governor Jean Abate Edi’i emphasized the urgency of dredging Lake Lagdo, whose silting threatens the survival of the dam, electricity supply, and economic activities. “We must take action,” he stressed.
The workshop, from September 14 to 19, brings together MINEPAT, MINFI, MINDEVEL, MINEPDED, CUG, PAD, and PAG to finalize the Community Council deliberation, the PAD-PAG agreement, and the specifications before signing.
