The regional delegate for National Security of the North is launching an operation aimed at preventing the sale of several types of energy drinks bearing names referring to political actors and events surrounding the October 2025 presidential election.

Energy drinks from Nigeria, including one named “Atanga Nji juice”, Supa Cheetah nicknamed “Issa Tchiroma Bakari”, or even an energy drink named “Ghost Towns” are on sale and consumed in Garoua and other localities in the North region. They appeared respectively before the electoral campaign for the presidential election of October 12, 2025, on October 14, 2025 and during the ghost town period following the said election.

The regional delegate for National Security of the North is asking the heads of National Security units to take all measures to prevent the sale of these drinks. The reason cited by the authority is linked, on the one hand, to highlighting the state of mind of the populations before and after the presidential election. As a reminder, this state of mind was marked by the campaign of candidate Issa Tchiroma Bakary, who at the end of the election proclaimed himself the winner, asked the populations to take to the streets and called for ghost towns to be observed.

On the other hand, the reason relates to public health because, according to the official message from the regional delegate, the quality of the said drinks remains doubtful regarding manufacturing standards.

According to sources, the same drinks are reportedly sold and consumed in the Far North region. The operation to ban sales would then extend to this other region of the North.
