During this meeting, the regional delegate, Elie Bernard Nguele Meyanga, representing Minister Marie Thérèse Abena Ondoa, emphasized the need for awareness and the continuation of the fight.

The forum gave participants the opportunity to identify the legal shortcomings that exist in the system to combat femicides as well as the importance of addressing them. During the discussions, Yvonne Akoa, president of the Cameroonian Association of Women Lawyers (Acafej), further emphasized the importance of awareness. For her, society favors one gender over the other in the distribution of power. Awareness must be able to tell people that this trend can change. The magistrate also opened another solution path based on law. At a time when violence against women is leading to the death of many, the legal expert proposes that the legislator adopt a specific law on gender-based violence. It will help strengthen the promotion and protection of women’s rights, a mission that Acafej has set for itself.
