The Cameroonian government confirms it has been informed of the death of sixteen of its nationals engaged as contractors in a Russian military operations zone. The families have been contacted.
The Ministry of External Relations of Cameroon acknowledged receipt, on March 5, 2026, of a verbal note from the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Yaoundé announcing the death of sixteen Cameroonian contract soldiers. The latter were operating in an area described as a “special military operation”.
In an official correspondence dated April 6, 2026, the ministry indicates that it has taken the necessary measures to inform the families of the victims. The authorities assure that steps are underway and that the follow-up to this situation will be communicated in due course.
Yaoundé has, moreover, renewed its assurances of high consideration to the Russian diplomatic representation, in a context marked by growing emotion surrounding the engagement of Cameroonian nationals abroad.
