Cameroon: three dead including two gendarmes in a Boko Haram attack in the Far North

At least three people were killed Saturday night in an attack attributed to fighters from the jihadist group Boko Haram in the Far North of Cameroon, according to local security sources.

The attack occurred around 22h30 in the locality of Assigashia, located in the Mayo-Moskota district of the Mayo-Tsanaga department, when armed assailants targeted this border locality, residents contacted by telephone by Xinhua said.

The provisional toll reports two gendarmes belonging to the local gendarmerie brigade killed during the assault. A civilian also died, burned alive in the fire caused by the attackers, who set fire to several homes before retreating towards the Nigerian border, the same sources added.

The Far North region of Cameroon remains a regular target of incursions by Boko Haram fighters and dissident groups, despite military operations carried out by the Cameroonian army and its partners in the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) in the Lake Chad basin.
