In Ulaanbaatar, the 17th United Nations Conference on Combating Desertification brought together 12,000 delegates around the theme “Restoring Lands.” The AfDB advocated for increased funding for degraded lands in fragile regions of Africa.

Entitled “Giving Hope Back” and themed “Restoring Lands,” the conference brought together more than 12,000 representatives from the 197 State Parties to accelerate global action against desertification, land degradation, and drought.
A crucial meeting at a time when states are trying to turn international commitments into concrete actions. For the AfDB, restoring lands in Africa is not just an environmental issue: it is a lever for food security, climate resilience, and sustainable livelihoods in areas where degradation fuels instability.
