The former head of intelligence services, through his lawyers, denounces an “attempted instrumentalization” and reserves the right to take legal action against the person concerned.
Revelations by Captain Effoudou about maneuvers and coups at the top of the State and within the Defense apparatus continue to provoke reactions. This time, the reaction does not target the whistleblower, but one of his targets denounced in his statements: the named Sani Mouhamadou. Originally from Cameroon, he claims in a recent statement to have provided his expertise since 2013 and to have made his network available to several Cameroonian state institutions.

Sani Mouhamadou indicates that in 2020, several state institutions requested his expertise and network. Among these institutions, he cites the Directorate General of External Research (DGRE) without further clarifying the relationships he had with these Cameroonian intelligence services.
His statement earned a response from the lawyers of Maxime Eko Eko, divisional commissioner and then head of intelligence at the time of the events, now imprisoned in Yaoundé prison in connection with the assassination case of the radio station chief of Amplitude FM, Martinez Zogo. In a press release, the group of lawyers denounces a “yet another attempt at instrumentalization,” a maneuver aimed at associating their client with “opaque influence efforts or illegitimate activities.”
The defense of the former head of the DGRE recounts the facts in an explanatory tone. According to the group, the DGRE never requested the services and network of Sani Mouhamadou in 2020. “It was the person concerned who requested and obtained the meeting, claiming alleged recommendations from high authorities of the Presidency of the Republic.” The person concerned was going to offer his services in the field of electronic surveillance, cybersecurity, and cyber defense.

In his approach and still according to the lawyers, Sani Mouhamadou was unable to produce any official authenticated document to justify his skills. When asked to present technical references and precise hardware specifications, the person concerned could only submit “obsolete commercial equipment from foreign manufacturers’ catalogs already rejected by the DGRE technical services.”
Such a deficiency thus led to the break of contact in 2020 between the institution and the one who presented himself as an expert. The Eko Eko camp, following its explanations, specifies that Sani Mouhamadou cannot claim an official document linking him to the DGRE in 2020.
