At least eight people were killed and another injured in an attack attributed to Boko Haram fighters that occurred on Friday night in the Far North region of Cameroon, local sources said on Saturday.
The attack took place around 11:00 PM in the village of Kangaleri, Mayo-Sava department, plunging the locality into fear and desolation. Six people were killed on the spot, while three others, seriously injured, were taken care of after the attack. Two of them eventually succumbed to their injuries, bringing the provisional toll to eight dead. One injured person was still being treated on Saturday, according to the same sources.

The attackers took advantage, as usual, of the night to burst into the village before fleeing. The exact circumstances of the attack as well as the identity of the victims remain to be established.
On the same night, another incursion attributed to Boko Haram jihadists was reported in Tourou, a locality located in the Mokolo district, near the border with Nigeria. According to local sources, the attackers took goods and livestock before vandalizing a market located not far from the center of Tourou. No human toll has been reported so far for this second attack.

The Far North region of Cameroon remains regularly targeted by incursions from Boko Haram fighters and dissident groups, despite military operations carried out by the Cameroonian army and its partners from the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) in the Lake Chad basin.
