The climate outlook for the next three months promises to be wet and risky. In its 36th Seasonal Bulletin (September-October-November 2026) and its 272nd Risk Bulletin, the National Observatory on Climate Change (Onacc) forecasts abundant rainfall across the entire territory.
During the next three months, the climate will be marked by the continuation of the rainy season in the Sudano-Sahelian zone (North, Far North), the Highlands (West, Northwest), Adamawa, and the monomodal forest zone (Littoral, Southwest). The main rainy season will be effective in the bimodal zone (Center, East, South). Average temperatures will be above the historical average between 1950 and 2022. The only exception: the western part of the South region (Kribi, Ambam, Ebolowa, Campo, Zoétélé…) where rainfall will be below normal.

Onacc specifies that this rainfall will be sufficient for the second agricultural campaign in the Greater South, particularly in the Center, East, and South regions.
Based on these forecasts, the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Célestine Ketcha Courtes, warns of three identified risks. In a radio-press statement, Minhdu cautions: due to their high density, urban centers are the most vulnerable.
The first risk concerns flooding in nine regions. The minister lists high-risk cities: Adamawa: Ngaoundéré, Hossere-Koba, Mayo-Baleo… Center: Yaoundé (Nkolbisson, Downtown, Nkolmesseng, Mballa 3, Elig-Edzoa, Obobogo-Rail). Far North: Logone Birni, Guéré. Littoral: Douala II, III, IV, V, Souza, Nkongsamba, Manjo, Njombé. North: Barndaké, Gamba, Tcholliré, Laro, Mayo-Oul. Northwest: Bamenda, Fundong, Batibo, Wum, Babungo… West: Bafoussam, Mbouda, Foumbot, Kekem, Bafang. South: Kribi, Ambam, Meka’a I. Southwest: Limbe, Tiko, Buea, Ekondo-Titi, Mamfe, Idenau…
The second risk is related to landslides. The exposed regions are Littoral, Northwest, West, and Southwest. The affected localities are Nkongsamba, Manjo, Mbanga, Logbessou/Douala, Boyo, Mezam, Bui, Momo, Menchum, Donga-Mantung, Menoua, Bamboutos, Haut-Nkam, Fako, Lebialem, Kupe-Muanenguba, Manyu.

Strong winds constitute the third risk in the Far North and North, with the possibility of roofs being torn off, poles down, and lightning strikes.
Other impacts forecasted by Onacc
Besides the risks mentioned above, forecasts indicate threats to health with outbreaks of cholera, dysentery, malaria, and respiratory diseases. In agriculture and livestock, there will be destruction of plantations (corn, cocoa, banana), attacks by caterpillars and granivorous birds, epizootics, and avian flu. Climatic effects on infrastructure may cause deterioration of roads, bridges, electrical networks, outages, and surges.
The minister’s outcry
Minhdu recalls the major sanitation projects instructed by Head of State Paul Biya (PADY, PCADY, PLIDY, PDVIR), but deplores that incivility undermines efforts through illegal waste dumping in gutters and anarchic constructions in riverbeds. This blocks the flow of rainwater. The government member thus recommends clearing gutters, avoiding building in risk zones, and following weather bulletins.
