The Muslim community of the Centre region has new faces. Grand Imam El Hadj Nsangou Mohamed Moustapha Awolou and Hajja Hadiza wife of Alhadji Garba Larey Ndjoa have been installed at the head of the Regional Islamic Council and the Regional Council of Muslim Women, during a ceremony presided over by the National Grand Imam in Yaoundé.
A major act for Islam at the heart of Cameroon. The Islamic Union of Cameroon (UIC) proceeded with the installation on August 25, 2026, of its leaders for the Centre Region. A ceremony full of symbolism, presided over by the Grand Imam, National President of the UIC, in the presence of the Governor of the Region, ambassadors, and religious leaders.

The Centre, presented as a mirror of Cameroon, is considered strategic for the image of an Islam of peace, dialogue, and citizenship. Hence the choice of profiles up to the challenges.
By act No. 042/UIC/CEN/2020, El Hadj NSANGOU MOHAMED MOUSTAPHA AWOLOU, born in 1982 in Bafoussam, becomes Grand Imam, President of the Regional Council. A product of the Al-Azhar universities of Cairo and Medina, Master in Arabic language and journalism, principal Imam of the Central Mosque No. 2 of Briqueterie, former executive of Bois du Cameroun and Director General of the Islamic Institute Siniyat, he is called to strengthen unity among Muslim sensitivities, enlighten youth against extremism and drugs, and equip the region with school and health infrastructures.

By his side, by act No. 053/UIC/CEN/2025, Hajja HADIZA EPSE ALHADJI GARBA LAREY NDJOA, born in 1958 in Nanga Eboko, takes the head of the Regional Council of Women. Former executive of FONADER, Crédit Agricole and BEAC, founding President of the Circle of Muslim Women of Mfoundi since 2015, triple labor medalist and Commander of Merit, she will have the mission to unite women, fight against early marriages, excision and school dropout, and promote empowerment.
The National President called to govern with justice and humility, in close collaboration with the authorities, recalling the community’s gratitude to President Paul Biya, guarantor of religious coexistence.
