On August 11, 2026, a delegation from UNESCO and the Social Vaccine team of Madame Chantal BIYA visited the Nkolfolou Multimedia Center in Yaoundé. Objective: to evaluate the equipment and define the final actions to make the center fully operational. The project is part of the national strategy for access to technology and youth training.
Digital technology as a lever for development. This was the purpose of the visit on August 11, 2026, to the Nkolfolou Multimedia Center, in the Central Region. Led by Madame JAJI Rose MBAH ATENG, National Coordinator of UNESCO, the delegation was accompanied by the Social Vaccine team of Madame Chantal BIYA, UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador.
According to Mrs. JAJI Rose MBAH ATENG, the Nkolfolou center is part of a national network of Multimedia Centers established under the Social Vaccine Program. Mission: to promote quality education, digital learning, research, and social inclusion.
On site, the delegation inspected the equipment, assessed the progress of the work, and identified the remaining needs for full commissioning. A videoconference was also organized with other centers connected across the country. The centers offer computer training, support online learning and research, and give teachers, students, and youth the opportunity to develop digital skills.
“This program supports the Government’s efforts to improve access to quality education and modern technologies,” emphasized the National Coordinator.
At the end of the inspection, UNESCO made several recommendations: Modernize part of the computer equipment for advanced learning, while keeping the current equipment for basic training; Strengthen communication via digital platforms and social networks to increase the international visibility of the program; Expand training for youth and adults, improve accessibility for people with disabilities, and ensure the sustainability of the centers.
In closing the visit, the two teams reaffirmed their commitment to work together for digital inclusion, innovation, and community development. They expressed their conviction that these Multimedia Centers will play a key role in expanding access to technology and promoting lifelong learning throughout Cameroon.
