
The municipal magistrate died last night in Douala following a malaise.
Gabriel Bihina Effila, mayor of the Yaoundé IV district, died during the night from Wednesday, August 12 to Thursday, August 13, 2026. While the circumstances of his death are not yet clarified, his body was transported to Yaoundé this morning. His death marks a premature end to his term as it was approaching the end of the second extension.
elected mayor of the district following the municipal elections of February 9, 2020, Gabriel Bihina Effila worked for almost six years to improve the living conditions of the population as well as the development of his community. Successor to Régine Amougou Noma at the head of this district, the man was a local elected official under the banner of the Cameroonian People’s Democratic Rally.
Holder of a specialized higher education diploma in finance, Gabriel Bihina Effila was born on August 3, 1954, in Yaoundé. A politician and traditional chief, he was close to the population both in his district and within the chieftaincy. Leaving at a time when the political scene is focused on preparing for the 2027 municipal and legislative elections, he leaves a void within the ruling party and within the district.
