Faced with the rise in rapes of children, femicides, kidnappings, and child thefts, MINPROFF, the Cameroon Human Rights Commission (CDHC), and the Cameroon Bar Association held a tripartite consultation on August 11, 2026, in Yaoundé. Objective: to develop a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen mechanisms for the protection of children, women, and families.
Social urgency dictates the institutional response. The Ministry of Women’s Promotion and the Family (MINPROFF), the CDHC, and the Cameroon Bar Association held a tripartite consultation meeting on August 11, 2026, in the MINPROFF conference room.

Presided over by Secretary General MOUSSA AOUDOU, the meeting aims to develop a Tripartite Convention for the promotion and protection of the rights of the child, woman, and family. “As you know, decree no. 2012/638 of December 21, 2012, organizing MINPROFF, entrusts it, among other things, with studying and proposing measures aimed at promoting and protecting Women, Families, and children,” the Secretary General reminded at the opening.
The approach comes in a context marked by an increase in serious incidents. Participants noted the rise in rapes of children, kidnappings, femicides, infanticides, and child thefts. Realities that require a coordinated and more effective response.
This initiative follows the April 10, 2026 meeting between Minister Marie Thérèse ABENA ONDOA and the President of the CDHC, James MOUANGUE KOBILA. The two institutions then agreed to strengthen mechanisms to combat violence against women and children.
Beyond speeches, it is now time to take action. The future convention between MINPROFF, the CDHC, and the Cameroon Bar Association aims to intensify the fight against these violences.
The idea is to pool expertise: MINPROFF for public policies and support, the CDHC for monitoring and defending fundamental rights, and the Bar Association for legal assistance and raising awareness among litigants.
“Synergy is essential to protect the most vulnerable,” the parties agreed.
In development, this Memorandum of Understanding should allow better coordination on the ground and easier access to justice for victims.
