The jurist and diplomat passed away this Friday, August 7, 2026, at the Yaoundé Emergency Center after a short illness. He is buried today according to Muslim tradition at the Soa cemetery.
Bah Oumarou Sanda, a native of Garoua in the North region, leaves the Constitutional Council definitively at the age of 86. He departs after a long professional career marked by three key phases. First within the judiciary. Graduated from the National School of Administration and Magistracy (Enam), he served in several localities of the country within the judicial administration. His career in justice led him to courts in the Center, Littoral, and West regions.

He was public prosecutor at the courts of Bafoussam, Nkongsamba, Edea, Yaoundé before being appointed Attorney General at the Court of Appeal of the West. He then made a first transition when he was called to serve as Secretary General of the National Assembly. At the end of this transition, he began the second phase of his career, this time in diplomacy. Appointed Ambassador of Cameroon to Chad, he represented the institutions of his native Cameroon in N’Djamena until 2018, when the second transition of his professional career began.
Back in Cameroon in 2018, the magistrate and diplomat did not experience unemployment. His experience in the judiciary and central administration predisposed him to a prestigious role reserved for the wise. Thanks to the progressive implementation of institutions created by the constitutional revision of January 18, 1996, the Superior Council of the Judiciary found him a place at the Constitutional Council.

Finally, appointed among the first members of this Council, he helped give it an identity during the October 2018 presidential election. The first experience of the Council and its wise members, the hearings broadcast on television helped engage the Cameroonian people in politics. Bah Oumarou Sanda thus contributed to making major decisions at the most decisive political and strategic moments in Cameroon before 2018, in 2018, and after.
