The Ministry of Defense assures that a sweep operation carried out by the Defense and Security Forces on July 17th successfully neutralized these terrorists.
The operation conducted at the junction of the villages Batanga and Asaka in the Akwaya district, Manyu department aimed at one objective: “Neutralize dangerous terrorists who were planning violent attacks to be carried out in the region, including dismantling fixed communication installations,” explains the Ministry of Defense in a statement dated August 5, 2026.

During the operation in question, heavily armed terrorists opened heavy fire to stop the progress of the infiltration section on mission. The response of this unit resulted in the neutralization of 05 terrorists. Many others are on the run and actively sought. The same operation allowed the seizure of several war weapons, two improvised explosive devices, and about ten bladed weapons.
The clarification of facts made by the Defense denies allegations that the Defense and Security forces massacred civilians and destroyed their property. This thesis is defended through social networks and is completely rejected by the Ministry of Defense. According to the government, this information is distorted and spread with the aim of undermining the morale of the Forces and altering the operational ethics of the troops engaged on the ground.
Since July 17th and until now, the army continues sweep and security operations in this sector. The goal is to neutralize all terrorists and ensure the tranquility of the populations. According to the ministry, the armed forces remain committed to their mission to safeguard the integrity of the national territory and protect civilians and property, in strict compliance with international commitments and international humanitarian law.
