The Minister of Commerce, Luc Magloire Mbarga Atangana, officially launches the 2026/2027 cocoa campaign on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at the City Hall of Yaoundé. It opens in a context of strong correction of global prices and a possible decrease in supply, with mixed signals between Asia and the West.

According to a Mincommerce statement dated August 5, 2026, this campaign takes place in “a global context marked by a major cycle reversal.” After unprecedented peaks reached in 2023 and 2024, the global cocoa market is experiencing a strong price correction.
Supply prospects are not reassuring. Compared to the 2025/2026 campaign, initial estimates suggest a possible decrease in production in the main producing countries. This trend is mainly explained by unfavorable climatic conditions in West Africa, the world’s leading production basin.
On the demand side, the picture is also mixed. Global consumption is expected to decline, particularly in Western countries. The statement points to a trend among chocolate manufacturers to use alternative fats to cocoa butter, in order to “counteract the prices, considered high, of the bean.”
A glimmer of hope for producing countries: Asia. “In contrast, demand in Asian countries shows an interesting and hopeful dynamic,” notes the Ministry of Commerce.
This launch in Yaoundé comes as cocoa remains one of Cameroon’s main export products. The government is expected, on this occasion, to recall support measures for producers and strategies to capture opportunities in the Asian market.

Stakeholders in the sector are now awaiting the guidelines and the farm-gate purchase price that will be set for this new campaign.
