His election took place this February 06, 2026, during an extraordinary session of the municipal council convened and chaired by the prefect of Lekié, Patrick Simou Kamsu.

The score was clear on the tally of validly cast votes at the end of the election. Francis Gaël Touna once again wins with 34 votes against two for his opponent Benjamin Menyengue. This is the verdict of the election for the head of the Obala town hall, which took place this Friday at the Documentation and Information Center and puts an end to the controversies that were still ongoing on the subject the day before. In particular, a first election of the same personality, a member of the Cameroonian People’s Democratic Movement, to the same position on December 29, 2025.

Chosen by a majority of 30 votes out of 36, he then replaced Simon Pierre Ediba, who died on October 16, 2025, after many years of service at the head of the municipality. However, this election was marred by illegality in form, with the convening of an extraordinary session by the interim mayor, Pr Faustin Mvogo, after December 17, 2025, the date on which the interim was to expire. A period of 60 days beyond which only the prefect had the authority to convene the municipal council for the election of a new mayor, as specified by law.

The convening on February 02 of the extraordinary session which took place this Friday led to the cancellation of the session of January 29, 2025. However, the main resolution putting an end to this meeting gives full legality to the new mayor and to the procedure that led to his designation. The new mayor will lead the municipality of Obala until the municipal elections scheduled for this year, for which the convening of the electoral body is awaited. His term thus runs until May 31, 2026.
