The national president of the Movement for the Renaissance of Cameroon (MRC) also demands the release of political prisoners, prisoners of conscience and other persons, arrested in the context of the 2025 post-election tensions.

The MRC president is sending a strong message to the Cameroonian authorities regarding the remains of opponent Anicet Ekane, who died in detention on December 1st, 2025. Maurice Kamto denounces the confiscation of the politician’s remains since his death under already murky circumstances and to the detriment of his family’s grief, who, three months later, are deprived of his body and unable to organize his funeral.

Maurice Kamto, the rejected candidate whom Anicet Ekane supported during the electoral process relating to the presidential election of October 12, 2025, also denounces the practices inflicted on the president of Manidem since his arrest in Douala on October 24, 2025. He was “hooded like a wild beast,” “deprived of the device that supported his life.” For the opponent of the Yaoundé regime, Ekane’s death “was orchestrated” and the confiscation of his body, as well as that of his oxygen concentrator, are “incomprehensible.” This “reinforces the feeling of a political assassination.”

The MRC president, the candidate ranked 2nd in the 2018 presidential election, therefore demands that the Cameroonian authorities release Anicet Ekane’s body to return it to his family. At the same time, the politician defends those arrested and imprisoned following the post-election tensions of October 2025. He calls for “the immediate release of all political prisoners and other prisoners of conscience, including those arrested in the context of the post-election crisis.”

However, one wonders if such a demand, despite having undeniable political force, can lead to all these demanded releases. The regime, faithful to its logic of conducting investigations into sensitive facts such as those related to the death of Anicet Ekane or Martinez Zogo, decides to keep the remains without giving the results of the investigations, the opening of which is often announced first to calm tempers.
