The special criminal jurisdiction has delivered the verdict on the seven cases that were under deliberation during the hearings at the end of last week.
The military court of the Centre sitting in Yaoundé has issued a series of decisions concerning the seven cases that were under deliberation. Seven people have been sentenced to various penalties. One of them, a woman, must serve a one-year suspended prison sentence for three years. Two people are sentenced to eight months of firm imprisonment. And four people receive a firm imprisonment of one year.

Due to the time already spent in detention since their arrest in October and November 2025, some people will regain their freedom as early as this week. However, the lawyers of the convicted express their dissatisfaction with the court decisions, believing that some concerned individuals who have done nothing should not receive such sentences. They are exploring possible appeals and intend to appeal to the Court of Appeal of the Centre.

Besides these seven accused whose fate is already known, at least 150 others are awaiting the end of their trial before the same court. While the trial is at the interrogation stage for some, it has been postponed for continuation on August 13, 2026. This phase will be followed by pleadings. Also, the court president has set the date for other hearings between July 27 and 29, 2026, so that those concerned can be judged within a reasonable time. The 150 are thus part of more than 800 people arrested across the country and officially declared during the demonstrations following the presidential election of October 12, 2025, of whom about 600 have been released on bail.
