The Steering Committee of the SECAL project has drawn an encouraging assessment of its implementation. With nearly 23,000 producers supported and more than 62,000 people sensitized, this initiative led by the government aims to sustainably strengthen food security, rural employment, and territorial resilience.

Cameroon continues the deployment of the Food Security and Living Conditions Improvement Project (SECAL), one of the major levers of its rural development strategy. The third session of the Steering Committee, held on May 28, 2026, in Yaoundé under the chairmanship of Jean Tchoffo, Secretary General of the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Regional Development (MINEPAT), made it possible to assess the progress made and define priorities for the coming months.

The results presented demonstrate a ramp-up of the program. More than 62,000 people have been sensitized to the issues of food security and local development, while 22,977 producers have benefited from technical and organizational support. On the ground, 1,193 action plans have already been implemented to stimulate agricultural production, improve rural household incomes, and strengthen community resilience.

The meeting brought together the main technical and financial partners of the project, including the French Development Agency (AFD) and the Delegation of the European Union, alongside institutional and local actors involved in its execution.

For the 2026 fiscal year, a budget of 7.8 billion FCFA is mobilized to consolidate achievements and extend interventions in targeted territories. Aligned with the objectives of the 2020-2030 National Development Strategy (SND30), the SECAL project reflects the public authorities’ ambition to promote more productive agriculture, inclusive rural territories, and growth that creates jobs.
