It had to stop. From August 17 to 27, 2026, Cameroon experienced its week of horror: more than 25 cases of femicide. The reason is chilling: killing a woman because she dared to say NO. Because she chose freedom.

This tragedy served as a wake-up call for the round table organized on September 10, 2026 in Yaoundé under the aegis of the Promoter of the Sainte Bernadette Health Center.
The figures presented are unbearable and reflect an upward trend: 56 cases in 2023, 69 in 2024, 77 in 2025 and already 60 cases in September 2026. A deadly spiral that social networks try to trivialize.
For Dr. Soundjock Massé Flavie, organizer, it is necessary to go back to basics: “When we talk about femicide, we first need the true definition. There must be a link. We asked women to take charge of themselves and to prevent.”

She advocates for re-education from childhood in the African context, vigilance towards emotions and social networks that say everything and its opposite, and above all kindness. “Set foundations in our relationships,” as a lawyer present reminded.
The round table resulted in a concrete partnership with the Miyondo Law Firm. From now on, victims of gender-based violence, men or women, will be able to refer to the Sainte-Mélanie Medical Center for care, with the legal aspect being handled by the firm.
Next step: appeal to the State. A report will be sent to the ministries so that femicide ceases to be a trivial news item and becomes a public policy priority.
