The National Observatory on Climate Change, in its climate alert bulletin of April 1st, also predicts health risks related to climatic conditions in the north. These include cases of epizootics, meningitis, respiratory ailments, conjunctivitis, and cases of animal loss.
In the southern part of the country, the first ten days of April 2026 will be marked by hailstorms, floods in major cities like Douala, Yaoundé, and Kumba, following intense rains and the obstruction of drainage channels in certain localities of the North-West and West. High-intensity rains accompanied by violent winds could lead to power outages due to falling electric poles in several regions and the destruction of plantations in the East region.

These climatic manifestations can lead to health risks in the southern part of the country, such as the worsening of joint pain in people suffering from rheumatism and osteoarthritis. This pain will be accentuated due to the persistent cold in the West and North-West. The proliferation of malaria-carrying mosquitoes as well as an increase in cases of respiratory diseases in cattle, pigs, and poultry will also occur.
Thus, the National Observatory on Climate Change recommends that stakeholders in the agricultural sector consult the agricultural calendar for the 2026 campaign in the south. Regarding health, ONACC recommends compliance with hygiene rules and advocates wearing face masks to avoid inhaling dust particles. In urban centers, the observatory invites populations to avoid taking shelter under trees, to dress lightly, and to unplug household appliances.
