
U.S. President Donald Trump said Wednesday on social media that Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian “has just requested a ceasefire from the United States.”
“We will consider it when the Strait of Hormuz is open, free and safe. Until then, we will demolish Iran until it falls into oblivion, or as they say, until it returns to the Stone Age!” Mr. Trump said in a post on Truth Social.

He estimated that the U.S.-Israeli war with Iran, which began on February 28, will end in two to three weeks, as Iranian strikes and counter-attacks continue in the Middle East and additional U.S. personnel and warships are deployed to the region.
In an interview with the Reuters news agency the same day, Mr. Trump assured that the United States “will withdraw fairly quickly from Iran,” but could return to conduct “surgical strikes” if necessary. This interview took place a few hours before an “important” update scheduled for Wednesday evening to the nation regarding the war.

Iran is willing to end the war if guarantees are provided against any repeated aggression, the Iranian president said Tuesday. He stressed that the cessation of attacks was the only way to normalize conditions.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that messages have been exchanged in recent days between Iran and the United States through intermediaries, but that no direct negotiations have taken place.
