Things are thus becoming clearer regarding the amendment of the Cameroonian Constitution. The news circulating in recent weeks, and especially since the convening of the current March parliamentary session, will come to fruition in a few hours. Certain provisions of Law No. 96/06 of January 18, 1996, revising the Constitution of June 02, 1972, as amended and supplemented by Law No. 2008/001 of April 14, 2008, will undergo a revision following the congress.

The announced revision targets the organization of executive power with a view to introducing the post of Vice-President of the Republic and its method of appointment, reducing the presidential term, and establishing a two-round electoral system for the presidential election. Also, other possible modifications concern the age limit for eligibility for the post of President of the Republic, among others.

For the sixth time, parliament will meet in Congress. This time, not to receive the oath of the newly elected president as was the case in 2018 and 2025, or to receive the oath of the members of the Constitutional Council when they are appointed. But to perform an act that will have a much greater impact on the organization and functioning of the state apparatus.
