The outgoing director of the French Development Agency, Virginie Dago, introduced the new director, Jérôme Notebaert, to the Minister of Public Works Emmanuel Nganou Djoumessi, on July 17 in Yaoundé.
The audience granted by the head of the ministerial department in charge of Public Works to the leaders of the AFD has a dual purpose. First, the outgoing director of the Agency, Virginie Dago, went to bid farewell to the minister. The meeting between the two partners was an opportunity to review the fruits of their partnership. Thanks to this partnership, the two parties have been able to carry out several projects in Cameroon. These include, among others, the construction of the bridge over the Sanaga, the second bridge over the Wouri, and the bridge over the Logone River. According to a communication from the ministry, the discussions during the audience also focused on the preparation of the Douala-Bangui economic corridor development program, emphasizing the rehabilitation of National Road No. 3 in its Edéa to Douala section, as well as the construction of the second bridge over the Dibamba.
According to the same source, the new director has committed to continuing the work started by Virginie Dago efficiently and within deadlines. While praising the action of the outgoing director, the minister wished the new director every success. Jérôme Notebaert arrives in Cameroon after four years of mission carried out by his compatriot Virginie Dago. He takes office at a time when the debt relief development contract C2D is coming to an end. Since 2006, it has enabled the Cameroonian economy to benefit from more than 967 billion CFA francs through the financing of projects in infrastructure, health, education, agriculture, urban development, and vocational training.
The new director of the AFD is present in Cameroon, a land familiar to him. He has participated on the ground, through regions, in monitoring the implementation of the urban C2D project “Regional Capitals,” a project financed to the tune of 111.5 billion CFA francs. He also knows the Central African Republic for having worked there between 2014 and 2016 as an international technical expert with the Ministry of the Interior and Public Security.
