The ministry’s mobile teams were deployed on the Yaoundé-Douala axis on August 20, 2026, as part of the fourth day of the operation to intensify the removal of obstacles on the roads and the repression of offenses on public roads.
The special road safety campaign launched by the Ministry of Transport last June is reaching cruising speed on road axes. Since August 17, a new phase of the campaign has been underway. This is the operation to intensify repression and the removal of obstacles on the roads, including vehicle wrecks and improperly parked vehicles.

On Thursday, August 20, the ministry’s teams deployed the operation on the Yaoundé-Douala axis, one of the deadliest routes in Cameroon. On the ground, the road prevention brigade observed several cases of irregular parking on the routes. Despite awareness efforts, drivers continue to park chaotically. The operations consist of moving vehicles in violation in order to prevent road accidents.
The intensification of this operation stems from observations by the road prevention teams. Since June 1, 2027, 35 traffic accident cases have been caused by dangerous or abusive parking of vehicles transporting various or hazardous goods. According to a statement from the Ministry of Transport dated August 16, the most recent accident caused by this phenomenon occurred on August 14, 2026, on the Ndikinimeki-Bafia section, resulting in 16 deaths and more than forty injuries. A bus belonging to a transport company collided with a truck loaded with wood parked on the roadway.

Through the same communication, the Minister of Transport indicates that the Ministry’s Mobile Road Prevention Brigade has identified at least 61 vehicles posing potential dangers: 27 vehicles on the Yaoundé-Douala axis, 19 on the Yaoundé-Bafoussam axis, and 15 vehicles on the Yaoundé-Bertoua axis. The ongoing removal operations will clear these vehicles until September 30, 2026. Beyond clearing vehicles in violation, administrative sanctions are planned against owners and drivers, as well as possible legal proceedings against them.
