Cameroon: an alleged Boko Haram supplier apprehended with 7,400 rounds of ammunition in his possession

A link in the supply chain of the Boko Haram armed groups is in the hands of the national gendarmerie in the Far North region of Cameroon. The alleged supplier of the armed groups spreading terror in the region was apprehended on the morning of Sunday, August 9, 2026, at Dougoum-Silo, in the Hilé-Alifa district, Logone-et-Chari department.

The members of the Hilé-Alifa gendarmerie brigade arrested him while he was in possession of a significant batch of ammunition. In total, this man residing in Ngouma was transporting 7,412 rounds contained in three cans with a capacity of 20 liters each, according to the national gendarmerie services. The analyses carried out indicate that these rounds are caliber 7.62×39 mm. The initial investigation elements show that they were intended to supply the terrorist groups active in the region, notably the Boko Haram terrorist groups operating in the area.

According to the national gendarmerie, the individual is undergoing thorough interrogation at the headquarters of the Makary gendarmerie company. The aim is to find the origin, the exact destination of the ammunition, as well as the network connections to which he might be linked.

This arrest illustrates the commitment of the national gendarmerie to dismantle the supply circuits of armed groups in this area located not far from the border with Nigeria. Terrorist attacks in the area have already caused several deaths and many injuries. In the Hilé-Alifa commune, three second-class sailors died in a terrorist attack on the night of May 5 to 6, 2025.

In the same commune, on the night of February 25 to 26, 2026, elements of the Cameroonian army neutralized four Boko Haram terrorists in Bargaram and seized military equipment from the assailants including weapons, 47 rounds (5.56×45), 112 rounds (7.62×39), 429 rounds (7.62×54) as well as six AK47 magazine boxes.
