BIODEV2030: three years of consultation in the service of biodiversity in Cameroon

The actors of phase 2 of BIODEV2030 reviewed an initiative that promoted the integration of biodiversity into public policies and development strategies, while strengthening cooperation between institutions, the private sector, and civil society.

After three years of dialogue and consultation, the stakeholders of BIODEV2030 Phase 2 met on May 29, 2026, in Mbankomo to evaluate the results and lessons learned from this initiative implemented in Cameroon. The meeting brought together representatives from the Ministry of Environment, Nature Protection and Sustainable Development, several sectoral administrations, the French Development Agency (AFD), WWF Cameroon, as well as numerous public, private, and civil society actors.

The discussions highlighted significant progress in taking biodiversity into account within public policies and productive activities. Major achievements include strengthening multi-stakeholder dialogue, identifying and integrating Sectoral Public Policy Instruments into the third National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (SPANB 3), as well as developing a technical guide to oversee Biodiversity Management Plans.

The project also resulted in the design of a territorial project proposal accompanied by a feasibility study, thus opening new perspectives for sustainable management of natural resources at the local level.
Beyond these technical achievements, BIODEV2030 demonstrated the relevance of an approach based on consultation and shared responsibility. Participants emphasized that biodiversity preservation cannot be separated from development imperatives and requires the coordinated commitment of all concerned actors. A dynamic that partners now intend to consolidate to meet upcoming environmental challenges.
