The Minister of Commerce, Luc Magloire Mbarga Atangana, launched the first edition of the Bagofit International Business Week 2026 on August 5, 2026. The ceremony was held in Bagofit, in the Abong-Mbang district, Eastern Region.

The ambition is clear. The goal is to make the East an investment destination. To this end, the organizers have mobilized several government members, administrative and diplomatic authorities, as well as delegations of investors from Turkey, China, India, Congo, Chad, and Central African Republic.
As the event’s patron, Luc Magloire Mbarga Atangana praised “a promising initiative for the future.” For the minister, it concretely reflects the decentralization policy driven by President Paul Biya for “inclusive territorial development.” He called to “replicate this model in other localities of the country.”
The project’s objectives are threefold:
First, to enhance local potential: The event highlights the richness of Cameroon’s five agroecological zones, with a particular focus on the resources of the Eastern Region.
Next, to reassure investors: The Minister emphasized the legal security offered to foreign investors wishing to establish themselves in Cameroon.
Finally, to open markets: A key argument, access to a market of more than 1.8 billion consumers through the African Continental Free Trade Area, AfCFTA, and Economic Partnership Agreements.
The Minister of Commerce thus urged economic operators to “seize the vast investment opportunities offered by the Eastern Region.”
With this event, Bagofit positions itself as a new economic showcase to attract capital and diversify the Cameroonian economy beyond the major urban centers.
