Mbam-et-Inoubou: the prefect bans the ostentatious carrying of bladed weapons

By an order signed on August 4, 2026, in Bafia, the Prefect of Mbam-et-Inoubou, Jean Lazare Ndongo Ndongo, prohibits the ostentatious carrying of bladed weapons throughout the department. The measure aims to preserve security and public order and entrusts enforcement to local administrative and security authorities.

Faced with the “urgent need to preserve security and public order,” the Prefect of the Mbam and Inoubou Department has just taken strong measures.

By Order No. 323/A/04/A1 of August 4, 2026, Ndongo Ndongo Lazare formally prohibits the ostentatious carrying of bladed weapons throughout the department.



Article 1 of the order specifies that “from the date of signature of this Order,” the “ostentatious carrying of bladed weapons such as daggers, knives, machetes” is prohibited throughout Mbam and Inoubou.

Offenders are warned. According to Article 2, “Offenders of the provisions of this Order are subject to the sanctions provided by the legislation in force.”

For the implementation of this decision, Article 3 designates the officials responsible for enforcement: “The Sub-Prefects, the Commander of the Bafia Gendarmerie Company, and the Public Security Commissioners of Mbam and Inoubou are each responsible in their respective areas.” The order “will be registered and published wherever necessary.”

The text is based on several legal foundations, including the Constitution, Law No. 90-54 of December 19, 1990, relating to the maintenance of order, as well as the 2008 decrees organizing the Republic and defining the duties of Heads of Administrative Districts.

Prefect Ndongo Ndongo Jean Lazare was appointed to this position by Decree No. 2025/355 of July 22, 2025.
Copies of the order have been sent to MINAT, the Governor of the Central Region, all Sub-Prefects of the department, the Mayor of Bafia, and security force leaders.
With this decision, the administrative authority of Mbam-et-Inoubou intends to strengthen the security climate in the department.
