This is the 2nd attempt. After boycotting the meeting on September 11, Synes is again summoned by the Minister of State Jacques Fame Ndongo, this Thursday, September 17 at 4:00 p.m., at the Ministry of Higher Education.
This new summons of September 16 comes as eight state universities have been on total and unlimited strike since September 3, 2026 under the slogan “dead academic year”. Teachers are claiming an academic debt of 15.4 billion FCFA accumulated from 2000 to 2021. According to MINESUP, only 41%, or 6.35 billion, has been paid since October 2025, leaving 9.14 billion outstanding. The ministry says it prioritized Bamenda, Buea, and Maroua. Synes demands full payment.

They also demand the research modernization allowance, blocked since the end of 2025. Nearly 80% of teachers have not received the 4th installment. And all are waiting for the installments for the year 2026.
Summoned for September 11 to the consultations, Synes was absent. In its letter of September 10, the general secretary of Synes, Prof. Wogaing Fotso Jeannette, cited 3 grievances: too short notice, unclear agenda without substantive demands, and the composition of its delegation imposed by the ministry. The union itself had proposed to meet again between September 15 and 18. This meeting on September 17 at 4 p.m. is therefore Fame Ndongo’s response to this proposal.

But Synes has also just sanctioned 2 of its executives in Bamenda and Buea for participating without a mandate in the September 11 meeting, proof that the hard line is maintained.
