Fake medicines: crackdown in Yaoundé

Major anti-counterfeit medicine operation in Yaoundé. Conducted by the Central Gendarmerie Legion on September 14, 2026, at the Mokolo market and the central market, it led to the arrest of hundreds of traders and the seizure of thousands of cartons of suspected counterfeit medicines, which were sealed.

This is a large-scale crackdown in the capital. A major operation against the illicit trade of medicines was carried out in recent days in several markets in Yaoundé, notably at the Mokolo market and the central market.
Led by the Central Gendarmerie Legion, the operation resulted in the arrest of hundreds of traders suspected of engaging in the sale of pharmaceutical products outside the legal circuit.
On site, the gendarmes discovered significant quantities of suspected counterfeit medicines. According to information from the intervention, thousands of cartons were seized at various points of sale.
The products were sealed, while the arrested individuals are expected to be questioned as part of the procedures initiated by the competent authorities.
This intervention is part of the fight against the sale and circulation of counterfeit medicines, a phenomenon that constitutes a major public health issue in Cameroon.
The authorities intend to strengthen controls in markets and other distribution channels to limit the circulation of non-compliant products and protect the population.
