September 7th is the first day of school for kindergarten, primary, and secondary students. The school year begins with goals and challenges.
It is a new start for the educational community. After three months of vacation, school campuses come back to life. The students of kindergarten, primary, and secondary, the main occupants of these spaces for teaching and acquiring knowledge, are back. About nine million children and adolescents are expected this year in schools, high schools, and colleges, including approximately 6,557,400 students in basic education.

Starting this Monday, the programs plan to begin classes by determining the students’ level and administering remedial measures for those who have gaps. At the basic education level, Minister Laurent Serges Etoundi Ngoa emphasizes achieving objectives, foremost among them being knowing how to read, write, and perform calculations. For this last element, the government member intends to train children to be able to perform calculations without using a machine. In secondary education, artificial intelligence and digital technology in general are areas of focus for this new year.

As classes resume, security issues still arise in the North-West and South-West regions where, due to the crisis, separatists impose ghost towns every Monday. Also in the Far North region where Boko Haram elements still attack and kidnap people. Additionally, floods, the presence of cholera in some parts of the North, as well as insecurity in major cities are challenges faced this year. But despite these challenges, teachers and school officials are called upon to respect the school year’s calendar set by the government.
