In response to persistent accusations of confiscation or embezzlement of the Indomitable Lionesses’ bonuses during the competition in Morocco, the Minister of Sports and Civic Education, Narcisse Mouelle Kombi, is clear.
No! “There is no issue of bonuses within the Indomitable Lions delegation.” The Minister of Sports strongly condemns the spreaders of false information. This is the essence of a communication dated August 12, 2026, signed by the head of the ministerial department in charge of sports. According to the document, the State covered all expenses related to the preparation and participation of the Lionesses in the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations held in Morocco. This coverage includes local and international transport, accommodation, meals, medical support, as well as bonuses.
While rumors accuse the minister of having embezzled or confiscated what rightfully belongs to the players and their staff, Narcisse Mouelle Kombi recalls the financial operations carried out and ongoing. For covering the various items, the government set a budget of 2,447,378,950 FCFA, including a firm tranche of 1,404,378,950 FCFA and a conditional tranche of 1,043,000,000 FCFA. The release of the latter is conditional on the team’s performance. To this budget, the State added an additional amount of 288,210,615 FCFA for a total of 2,735,589,565 FCFA.
According to the minister, disbursement operations have begun. The participation bonuses for the delegation at the AFCON have been fully transferred to the accounts of the delegation members for an amount of 923,000,000 FCFA including taxes, at a rate of 30,000,000 per player, or 26,700,000 FCFA in net pay.

As for the performance bonuses, their processing is being finalized at the Ministry of Finance. The bonuses for qualifying for the quarter-finals amount to 8,000,000 FCFA including taxes per player. While the bonuses for qualifying for the semi-finals are 6,000,000 FCFA per player. In case of victory in the final, each player will be entitled to an additional sum of 8,000,000 FCFA or rather 5,000,000 FCFA following the ranking in second or third place.
These clarifications as well as the assurances given by the government member are intended to reassure the public as well as the Lionesses. They face tonight, in the semi-finals of the women’s AFCON, the Morocco team after their victory over Nigeria (1-0) in the quarter-finals last Sunday.
