The ninth edition of the International Handicrafts Exhibition of Cameroon starts this July 27, 2026, at the National Museum in Yaoundé. This edition focuses on innovation as a means to transform the Cameroonian handicraft sector.
An important national platform for the promotion, enhancement, and commercialization of handicraft products, SIARC starts this Monday in Yaoundé. Under the theme “Between tradition and modernity: how to stimulate artisanal innovation?”, the ninth edition brings together more than 600 artisans from Cameroon and several other countries. They showcase their creations to thousands of visitors and buyers, professionals, investors, financial institutions, researchers, technical and financial partners, representatives of public and private institutions. Many foreign delegations have traveled to participate in the exhibition. Algeria and Côte d’Ivoire are the two guest countries of honor at this edition.
Until August 05, 2026, activities revolve around the exhibition, but not only. The organizers plan conferences-debates, training workshops dedicated to innovation, digital marketing, intellectual property, standardization, certification, and access to financing. Other activities such as Heritage Days highlighting the ten regions of Cameroon, a gastronomic area, cultural events, and the formalization pavilion are to be discovered.
The innovations announced during this edition include the opening of a SIARC Souvenir Shop. It will ensure better promotion of the exhibition’s labeled products. Also included in this register are specific training courses on the standardization and certification procedures for handicraft products, initiation workshops on handicraft trades for the benefit of young people and vulnerable persons.

According to the Minister of SMEs, Social Economy and Handicrafts, Achille Bassilekin III, handicrafts remain one of the most dynamic sectors of the Cameroonian economy. It mobilizes nearly 60% of the active population. It contributes to wealth creation, promotes the socio-economic integration of thousands of Cameroonians, and helps preserve the national cultural heritage.
During a press conference last Thursday, the government member indicated that the ninth edition of SIARC focuses on modernization to meet international standards. It provides an opportunity to support artisans in this movement through several actions, including the integration of contemporary design, digital technologies, standardization and certification processes, as well as the use of new marketing tools. Thus, it is necessary to preserve traditions while innovating. Because the future of Cameroonian handicrafts rests on its ability to enhance its cultural heritage while adapting to economic and technological changes.
