Cameroon continues to strengthen its position in the renewable energy sector. The Ministry of Water and Energy (MINEE) opened, on May 11, 2026 at the Solar Technology Application Resource Centre (STAR-C) in Yaoundé, a training session dedicated to the installation of autonomous photovoltaic solar systems.

Scheduled until May 15, this training brings together 30 technicians selected following the call for applications launched on April 28 by Minister Gaston Eloundou Essomba. The initiative is part of the cooperation between Cameroon and the International Solar Alliance (ISA), with the objective of strengthening local expertise in solar professions.

Open to technicians, engineers, teachers, and researchers specialized in renewable energies, the selection favored profiles capable of supporting the deployment of solar solutions across the national territory. MINEE also encouraged the participation of women to promote better representation in a sector still largely male-dominated.

Participants will be trained in installation techniques, maintenance operations, as well as safety standards related to photovoltaic equipment. Through this program, the government intends to support the emergence of a qualified workforce, essential to improving sustainable access to electricity, especially in rural and peri-urban areas, while supporting the country’s energy transition.
