Niger: summoning of the EU chargé d’affaires after a resolution on Bazoum

The Nigerien Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Nigeriens Abroad, Bakary Yaou Sangaré, summoned the interim chargé d’affaires of the European Union delegation to Niger, Nicoletta Avella, to his office in Niamey on Thursday.

This summons follows a resolution adopted the same day by the European Parliament on the situation of former Nigerien President Mohamed Bazoum.



In a statement, the Nigerien government expressed its “indignation” and “firmly condemned the European Union’s interference in Niger’s internal affairs.”

As a reminder, in this resolution, the European Parliament calls for the “immediate and unconditional” release of former President Mohamed Bazoum, detained since the coup d’état of July 26, 2023.
