A memorandum of understanding was signed on March 12 between the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development and two Cameroonian companies for the implementation of a vast waste collection, sorting, and recycling project. Supported by the First Vice-President of the South Regional Council, Cathy Meba, the initiative will extend to Yaoundé, Douala, and Ebolowa.
A new initiative in favor of youth employment and urban sanitation has just reached a decisive milestone. Under the impetus of the First Vice-President of the South Regional Council, Cathy Meba, a memorandum of understanding was signed between two Cameroonian economic operators and the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development (MINHDU). This commitment marks the launch of a major project dedicated to waste collection, sorting, and recycling.
Initially planned for the cities of Yaoundé and Douala, the project will ultimately be extended. Thanks to the advocacy of Cathy Meba, the city of Ebolowa will also be integrated into the scheme. A waste collection and treatment plant is expected to be built there, with the ambition of sustainably strengthening waste management while stimulating the local economy.
Beyond improving the living environment, the initiative has a strong social dimension. The promoters announce the creation of approximately 3,000 direct jobs and more than 5,000 indirect jobs in the three cities concerned, thus offering new socio-professional integration prospects to many young people.
