The administrative authorities and elites of the East region provide details on the location of the landslide and the number of victims of Cameroonian origin.
Following the landslide that occurred on August 18, 2026, at a gold mining site on the border between Cameroon and the Central African Republic, the administrative authorities indicate that four Cameroonians lost their lives in Zamboi. Their bodies were transferred to Garoua-Boulaï, on the Cameroonian side. They also specify that the collapse took place on Central African territory, in the village of Zamboi, which shares its name with the neighboring Cameroonian village, contrary to the initial information given in the previous JDC article on the subject.

In a communication dated August 19, 2026, the governor of the East region states that there are several casualties as well as many injured. The administrative authorities have taken the necessary measures to facilitate the identification of the victims, the reception, and medical care of the injured who might cross the border towards Cameroon, assures the governor.
The platform for the development of the East region, in a statement, expresses its condolences to the families of the victims. Minister Joseph LE, a member of the steering committee of this platform, calls on the population and actors in the mining sector to exercise the utmost caution and strictly respect environmental standards and safety rules governing the exploitation of natural resources.
