Cameroon and the United Nations System want to give new momentum to their environmental cooperation. On the occasion of a meeting held on May 6, 2026, at the Ministry of Environment, Nature Protection and Sustainable Development, Minister Hele Pierre received Dr. Issa Sanogo, recently appointed as the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Cameroon.
This first official meeting allowed both parties to review several strategic files, notably the implementation of the Cameroon-United Nations cooperation framework and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The discussions also focused on preparing Cameroon’s participation in upcoming international conferences on climate, biodiversity, and desertification scheduled for 2026 in Mongolia, Armenia, and Turkey. The UN reaffirmed its readiness to support the government in organizing and strengthening national delegations.
Another major topic: the ConvergeFood initiative, jointly led with the Ministry of Agriculture, focusing on promoting agroecology and the application of the organic production law adopted in 2025.
Welcoming this visit, Minister Hele Pierre advocated for more flexible access to international climate financing and called to move beyond consultations to prioritize concrete actions in favor of the environment and sustainable development.
