Cameroon is making its voice heard against desertification. Since August 17, 2026, Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia, has been hosting the 17th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification, under the theme “Restore land, Restore hope”.

The Cameroonian delegation is led by the Minister of Environment, HELE Pierre, accompanied by the Secretary General of MINEPDED, Prof. Paul Tchawa, and the Convention Focal Point, David Payang.
Since August 24, following the opening of the high-level segment by Mongolian Prime Minister Nyam-Osoryn Uchral, Minister HELE Pierre presided over the ministerial segment on the links between land degradation, drought, mobility and security, before an official dinner hosted by the Mongolian head of government.

The agenda promises to be busy. On August 25, 2026, Cameroon will speak on the day dedicated to Water, focusing on water retention in landscapes, soil restoration and erosion control.
The highlight on August 27 with three key meetings: an IOM roundtable on Migration and Security, a second on financing the integration of migration into development plans, and especially a bilateral Cameroon – United Arab Emirates meeting. On the agenda: sharing Cameroon’s experience of the Green Sahel and financing opportunities for the Kaélé agro-industrial complex.
