Cameroon: the government publishes the calendar for the 2026/2027 school year

A joint order from the Minister of Basic Education, Laurent Serge Etoundi Ngoa, and the Minister of Secondary Education, Pauline Nalova Lyonga, sets the main guidelines for the upcoming school year.

In three weeks, kindergarten, primary, and secondary school students will start or return to school. September 7, 2026, is indeed the start date for students. While July 30, 2027, will mark the end of the school year. The joint order published on August 14, 2026, also sets the division of the school year into three terms with two break periods.

The first break period, corresponding to the Christmas holidays, runs from Friday, December 18, 2026, at 3:30 PM to Monday, January 4, 2027, at 7:30 AM. The second break period, corresponding to the Easter holidays, starts on Thursday, March 25, 2027, at 3:30 PM and ends on Monday, April 12, 2027, at 7:30 AM. The first term, which begins on September 7, ends on November 27. The second term has two parts. The first part starts on November 30 and is suspended on December 18 before resuming on January 4 to end on March 5, 2027. The third term, also comprising two parts, starts on March 8 and is suspended on March 25, 2027, before resuming on April 12 to end on June 11, 2027.



According to the joint order, the zero tests or mock exams for primary education will take place on Wednesday, April 14, Thursday, April 15, Friday, April 16, and Saturday, April 17, 2026. The practical PE tests for official exams will be held from Monday, April 26 to Friday, May 7, 2027. The Fenasco league A and B games will take place during the so-called Easter holidays.

The same text indicates the periods for official exams and competitions. Those for basic education will take place between Monday, May 10 and Friday, July 30, 2027. And those for secondary education will be held from Monday, April 19 to Friday, July 30, 2027.

During the school year, educational activities will be conducted in person in classrooms and remotely via the internet, radio, television, or through self-learning booklets. As part of pedagogical innovation and digital transformation, the government invites schools to promote the integration of digital educational resources and artificial intelligence tools in teaching, learning, and remedial activities.
