The Board of Directors of the company Aéroports du Cameroun and the entity’s partners conducted a site visit on July 8th, with the aim of assessing the progress of the works.
On this occasion, the progress of the first phase of the passenger terminal renovation project was presented to the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Aéroports du Cameroun (ADC), Fritz Ntone Ntone. At a cost of 10.45 billion FCFA including tax, this first phase, entrusted to the company China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC), was launched on June 15, 2026, with a planned duration of twelve months.

The site responds to the continuous growth of air traffic and the new operational requirements of airlines. It aims to adapt the runway-side infrastructures to improve aircraft movement, enhance ground operation safety, and optimize the overall performance of the airport platform in a context of intensified activities.
Indeed, as the main air gateway to Cameroon, Douala International Airport has recorded since its commissioning on June 27, 1977, more than 17,500 aircraft movements, including 15,445 commercial flights, welcomed 1,122,197 passengers (including transit), and served 112 cities via 56 airports spread across 21 countries. The platform is served by 18 regular airlines and aims to increase its traffic and improve its performance. This requires the extension and modernization of the airport platform.
The works notably include the extension of taxiways, the development of new aeronautical surfaces, the technical compliance of existing infrastructures, as well as the installation of necessary equipment and lighting. Ultimately, they will increase aircraft handling capacity, reduce operational constraints, and prepare for the next stages of airport modernization.

For airlines, these developments should improve operating conditions through better availability of parking stands and reduced aircraft turnaround times. Passengers will indirectly benefit from decreased operational congestion and improved service quality. As for the airport, it will strengthen its operational capacities, competitiveness, and attractiveness at the regional level.
This operation constitutes the first step of the overall passenger terminal renovation program, led by Aéroports du Cameroun (ADC) with the support of the French Development Agency. The project notably includes the modernization of the terminal, increased reception capacities, optimization of passenger flows, as well as strengthening security, safety, and compliance with international standards.
