The creation of the political party called Rendez-vous National is at the stage of administrative validation with the Ministry of Territorial Administration (Minat). The fate of the party is in the hands of Paul Atanga Nji, who had just ordered the arrest and administrative detention of the founder.
The issue is no longer the formation of Rendez-vous National (RENA). The political party already has a name, a president (Mouhamadou Aboubakar), a secretary general (Hamadou Aboubakar), and a treasurer (Teteo Gilbert Ndzidama). The founding meeting took place in Yaoundé. The question is that of the administrative validation of the political party. The creation file submitted on July 25, 2026, to the governor of the Central region, is forwarded to the Minister of Territorial Administration, Paul Atanga Nji.

By correspondence dated August 12, 2026, the governor, through his secretary general, submits the said file for the consideration of the government member responsible for political parties. The fate of the file submitted by Aboubakar Ousmane Mey is therefore in the hands of the minister. He, who, on the eve of the presidential election of October 12, launched a manhunt against Aboubakar Ousmane Mey after remarks made during a television program on the Équinoxe TV channel.
In his media intervention, the opposition figure declared that the plan was to overthrow the power and that it was 80% accomplished. On October 6, a few days before the election, and while serving as a member of the campaign team of Bello Bouba Maigari, UNDP candidate, he was arrested following an investigation ordered by Minat and held in Garoua prison. He is accused of “holding an illegal demonstration” and “inciting revolt.”

His arrest sparked a wave of demands from the opposition. Leaders of several parties called for his release. Released on November 21, 2025, several weeks after his arrest, the man does not abandon his ideas and objectives. Well known for his strong positions against the regime as well as for his desire to bring back to Cameroon the remains of former president Ahmadou Ahidjo, who rests in Senegal. Aboubakar Ousmane Mey is far from being a political actor who flatters the regime.
Brother of the Minister of Economy, Planning and Regional Development Alamine Ousmane Mey, he seems closer to the late Ahmadou Ahidjo, who was also close to his father Abba Ousmane Mey, governor of the North. He launched his political party shortly after his release to gain legality and autonomy in order to carry out his political activities with full legitimacy. He intends to rely on his native North where he has been active in politics for years. If Minat validates the file, RENA will operate in an environment already occupied by nearly 360 political parties and dominated for 25 years by the Cameroon People’s Democratic Rally.
