Cameroon Elections, through the voice of the Director General of Elections, Erik Essousse, provided an update on the electoral roll revision campaign last Tuesday at the Elecam headquarters in Yaoundé, the day after the operations closed.
The electoral roll revision campaign launched on January 2, 2026, ended last Monday, August 31. At the end of the registration operations, 252,830 new voters were registered during the dedicated period, including 150,954 men, 101,876 women, 169,225 youth (including 103,230 young men and 65,995 young women), and 176 persons living with disabilities. The proportion of voters registered in the diaspora is 234 people, including 150 men and 84 women.

During the campaign, Elections Cameroon services carried out 39,681 updates, 803 modifications, 14,362 transfers, and 24,516 removals. The teams also proceeded with the distribution of voter cards. Between January and the end of August 2026, 102,894 voter cards were distributed out of the 887,910 cards remaining as of December 31, 2025. This represents a distribution rate of 11.58%.
The figures regarding new registrations vary from one region to another. The Centre region leads with 37,595 new voters, or 14.86%. The Far North is second with 34,924 new voters. The North-West ranks third with 32,869 new registrants. The Littoral follows with 28,320 new voters, while the South-West ranks fifth with 28,112 new registrants on the electoral lists.

Currently, the uncleaned national electoral register contains 8,238,778 voters. With the revision of the lists completed, Elections Cameroon will begin the cleaning operations of the electoral register in accordance with Articles 78 and 80 of the Electoral Code. At the end of these operations, the institution will publish the provisional electoral lists no later than October 20 and the national electoral list on December 30.
Meanwhile, the distribution of voter cards continues. Elecam teams “go through neighborhoods door-to-door and send SMS messages to holders of uncollected cards,” said the Director General of Elections Erik Essousse during the press briefing on September 1. He invites people whose cards are available to come and collect them from Elecam’s communal offices.
