Former Prime Minister Philémon Yang handed over the deposit slip of the amount to a bank to the chairman of the board of the health facility on July 17.
During a recent ceremony held in Yaoundé, the elites of the North-West region handed over a significant sum of money to the board of directors of the Bamenda Regional Hospital. On behalf of the elites, former Prime Minister Philémon Yang handed over the deposit slip for the sum of 53,603,179 CFA francs to Fru Angwao III in the presence of the hospital director Denis Nsame. The funds are intended for the rehabilitation work of the Bamenda Regional Hospital, partly destroyed by a fire last June.

The handover of funds is the result of a call for mobilization launched the day after the fire that destroyed part of the health facility. To raise this amount, several people and personalities responded positively to this call. Personalities, public officials, and goodwill individuals joined their efforts to provide the region’s health system with the means to rehabilitate the damaged infrastructure. This facility is an important center for patient care in a region plagued by a security crisis.

The fire that occurred in June destroyed several offices and important files of the hospital. Significant material damage was reported at the multipurpose center. The fire affected offices and services such as medical archives, human resources, medical statistics, chaplaincy, and the library. A few days after the disaster, the government, through the Minister of Public Health, announced the assessment of losses as well as the rehabilitation of the hospital services affected by the flames.
