Gathered at MINRESI, researchers, academics, and technology experts launched, on May 25, 2026, a symposium dedicated to the challenges of artificial intelligence and digital sovereignty. At the heart of the discussions: building reliable datasets and securing the national algorithmic ecosystem.
The conference room of the Ministry of Scientific Research and Innovation (MINRESI) hosted, on Monday, May 25, 2026, the opening ceremony of the symposium of the National Technology Committee (CNDT) dedicated to artificial intelligence and digital sovereignty in Cameroon. Held under the theme “Building trusted datasets and securing the algorithmic ecosystem,” this meeting brings together researchers, academics, and technology specialists around the challenges related to AI.
Presiding over the work on behalf of the Minister of Scientific Research and Innovation, who was unavailable, the Inspector General of MINRESI, Dr. Jean Marcel, emphasized the expected outcomes of this first edition. He expressed the hope that this symposium would be “the starting point of a reliable, useful, and sovereign Cameroonian artificial intelligence.”
At the opening, the permanent secretary of the CNDT, Dr. Patrice Ele Abiama, recalled the economic stakes related to artificial intelligence. According to him, the valorization and commercialization of digital data, in compliance with regulatory standards, represent a strategic lever for national development.

The central moment of the ceremony, the inaugural lecture by Prof. Marcelin Nkenlifack, a teacher at the University of Dschang and scientific coordinator of the ICT-AI commission of the CNDT, highlighted the role of AI as a driver of digital sovereignty. The academic notably advocated for the establishment of effective mechanisms for collecting, preserving, and protecting national data.
