Gathered in Yaoundé for intensive training in database administration from May 18 to 29, 2026, seven officials from the Burundian Ministry of Education are strengthening their skills to improve the reliability of school statistics and the governance of the education system.
“Strengthening the technical capacities of educational administrations is a key lever to improve the quality of governance and decision-making based on reliable data,” emphasizes the UNESCO Regional Office for Central Africa at the opening of a training session held in Yaoundé from May 18 to 29, 2026.
This initiative brings together seven officials from the Ministry of National Education and Scientific Research (MENRS) of Burundi around technical learning focused on Microsoft SQL Server 2022. The goal is clear: to modernize the Education Management Information System (EMIS), a strategic pillar of school planning and monitoring of public education policies.
Part of the Quality Improvement Project for Learning in Burundi (PAQABU), the training aims to equip participants with advanced tools in database management and administration. Ultimately, Burundian authorities aim to have more reliable, updated, and accessible educational statistics to guide government decisions.
Beyond the technical aspect, this approach reflects the educational partners’ desire to make digital technology a driver of transformation of the Burundian education system, in a context where data mastery becomes a central issue of public governance.
